Club of Comfort

From bespoke tailoring to an industrial company

Master tailor Johann Hinrichs founded the Hinrichs company in Mittegroßefehn in 1954. In rented premises at the time, he began making bespoke men's clothing for a small clientele. He took measurements from his customers and produced the desired garment individually and according to the rules of the art. There were two or three fittings and then the new garment "fit". Four years later, the company moved to Ostgroßefehn to a larger workshop with its own store.

Development at the Großefehn site

At the beginning of the sixties, ready-made clothing began to overtake the previous mainstay of made-to-measure production. The tailoring business took its first step on the way to becoming an industrial company with the series production of men's vests. The resounding success, however, came with the development of the company's own men's pants collection. New employees were hired for this. Due to the constantly growing production, the workshop premises soon became too small, so the construction of the company's own factory building was begun. The up-and-coming company proudly moved into its new headquarters in 1969.

Company development and production expansion

Hinrich's pants quickly became a hit and the production of men's vests was discontinued. By 1970, 200 pairs of pants were being produced daily. Due to the increasing demand for Hinrichs pants, the production capacity was expanded from 200 to 400 pants a day in 1972. In 1975, a further expansion of the company was necessary to increase production to 600 pants per day. A fourth building project in 1977 made it possible to produce 1000 men's pants a day at the Großefehn site. Finally, in 1985, the storage capacity was increased and a new administration building was put into operation.

Production in Presov

Every success needs to be defended, as does the success of the Hinrichs company. When competition in the clothing industry became increasingly fierce at the beginning of the seventies due to foreign production, the management reacted immediately. As early as 1972, contacts were established with what was then Czechoslovakia, and the company awarded contract orders through the Iron Curtain to efficient Czech cooperation partners who were able to guarantee Hinrichs' high quality standards. Over the years, this contract production developed into a decisive factor. It enabled the company to successfully counter competitive pressure at an early stage through low-cost production.

Takeover of the Schwerin plant of VEB Kleiderwerke Güstrow

As one of the first investors in the new federal states, Hinrichs Bekleidungswerk GmbH took over a production facility in East Germany in 1990. Both the buildings and the machinery initially had to be brought up to date with considerable investment. The employees were extensively trained to meet the requirements of the new technology, so that the company was soon operating under market economy conditions. In September 1991, the plant was officially inaugurated in the presence of the then Minister of the Chancellery, Rudolf Seiters. The Schwerin plant was entrusted with the production of more than 1000 parts a day, which were delivered to the main plant in Großefehn for commissioning.

successes. The decision was made to intensify the commitment in the former CSFR, which had begun in 1972. With the opening up of the eastern markets after the fall of communism, the idea of an own factory in the east was consolidated and the first preliminary talks began. Hinrichs Bekleidungswerk was a welcome customer and trading partner for the former Czechoslovakia. The visit of President Vaclav Havel in 1990 underlines this emphatically.

CC brand relaunch

A good 10 years after the launch of the "Club of Comfort" brand, the shape, color and font of the British-style logo has been adapted to reflect changing tastes over time. Slight modifications to the typography, which are carried out with a view to recognition, give the logo a more contemporary look.

Ecology

In addition to a contemporary product and brand image, a modern corporate philosophy also includes a pronounced awareness of ecological aspects. For example, "Club of Comfort" pants are predominantly made using textiles and ingredients that have been tested for harmful substances and certified in accordance with the strict guidelines of Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex®. In addition, great importance is attached to sourcing outer fabrics and ingredients in Europe and also producing the garments there. This ensures that the textiles are manufactured and finished in accordance with the strict ecological EU standards and that transportation routes are kept as short as possible, thus avoiding unnecessary emissions that harm the environment.

Ecological awareness

The installation of a 370 m² rooftop photovoltaic system with an output of 43.5 kW on the company building in 2005 also reflects the company's pronounced ecological awareness. In the years that followed, extensive modernization measures were gradually implemented (extensive roof insulation, new window fronts, modern daylight lighting), which noticeably reduced energy consumption. For the future, further ecological commitment is part of the company's compulsory program. After all, every investment in serious environmental projects is an investment in a better future.
